Rob Copley (Haydon Bridge Group Lead Volunteer comments on a fantastic opportunity for our young people who took part in Project Challenger during the Easter holidays.

"1st Haydon Bridge and 1st Hexham made a great team to go and crew a 35 mtr ocean going racing yacht, a Challenger 72, off the South Coast this week. Some real wild weather, we were out in a force 7 but was excellent fun and the Scouts loved getting a soaking! "

on Saturday 3rd February representatives from Hadrian District including Scouts from 1st Hexham & 1st Prudhoe, attended a tree planting ceremony in the park grounds in Hexham. Organised by the District Scout historian Mr Robert Hubbuck.

Robert said "What a quietly momentous day it was in keeping with our great country England. Our founder Lord Baden Powell I'm sure have been suitably impressed by our planting an oak tree for future generations, For it was he who uttered the immortal words "From a small acorn, a mighty oak tree will grow" and sit it was and so it is.

The Scout section has enjoyed a day Clay Pigeon shooting at the Steve Smiths Shooting Grounds near Dinnington. The day was organised thanks to one of our Scout Parents Mr Alec Mitcheson & Rob Newton from the British Association for Shooting & Conservation. The Scouts were split into three Groups and given the opportunity following a safety brief to shoot at a range of Clay pigeons coming from various locations . We were extremely impressed with the standard of the Shooting with several Scouts scoring doubles & Triples . We wouild like to thank Alec & Rob for organising this experience for the youngsters & also the BASC Shotgun coaches who gave their time on the day. The Scouts were also given a free Beanie hat, Lanyard & Pencil .

Scouts from our Troop joined Troops from Riding Mill & Stocksfield for an action packed water activities day at Fox Lake near Dunbar in Scotland on Sunday 7th May. The Scouts took part in Fox Fall & Ringo . Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day  & thanks to our ADC Scouts Stuart Ford for organising the activity.
