A Special Thank You !
20/12/2020 By David Hefferin

The Scouts held their annual awards evening on Monday 14th December with a socially distanced meeting at Jack's shelter at the rear of the Scout Centre. A blazing camp fire & Pizza was a great way to end a year that most of us will be extremely glad to see the back of.  On the evening we were delighted to invite our dear friend Bobby Hubbuck along. Bobby has given over 50 years of dedicated scouting service in this District and had recently announced his retirement from the movement. Our Scout Group is extremely grateful for all the time & dedication he has given to support our young people for over half a century. We were determined not to let Bobbys retirement go unnoticed & so we were delighted to present him with a sterling silver THANKS badge on behalf of the Group & the National Scout Association. At Hexham we regard Bob as a legend in this District & it was only right & fitting that such an amazing service to Scouts was recognised by the Group.

The Northumberland Lottery
16/10/2020 By David Hefferin

The Northumberland Lottery is an excellent way for parents to support the Scout Group and with a far greater chance to win prizes than the National Lottery. Tickets cost just £1.00 per week and 50p from every ticket sold goes directly to the Scout Group. There is a weekly jackpot prize of £25,000 available with prizes for matching two numbers or more.

We have now registered with the Lottery & you can purchase tickets directly from our lottery page at

The Lottery will help us to continue our work on reclaiming & putting to good use the land at the rear of the Scout Centre. We are planning to install more decking, a camp fire circle area and fire pit to add to the brilliant facilities we already have with Jack's shelter, the Pizza shack and the imminent giant chess board and Tandoor cooking area. This all adds to the great experiences your child can have with us and will help us provide safe outdoor scouting during the current situation. Jack's shelter & the Pizza shack have proved to be invaluable in enabling us to return to face to face Scouting.

Please consider supporting the Group through the Lottery

The Scout Group has unveiled plans to extend our decking area around Jack's shelter at the rear of the Lookwide Centre. During the summer months a lot of work has been done to reclaim land from what was a jungle . Trees have been felled, bushes cut back and the land raked and tidied in preparation for re grassing where possible.

Jack's shelter is a fantastic venue for a camp fire / barbeque but we are short of seating areas . The planned project will see the completion of a new decking platform to the left of the shelter of approx 4.2 metres x 3 metres. From this platform a set of steps will lead up the bankside to another decking platform. Both platforms & the steps will have hand rails for safety.  The project has now been fully costed and we are hoping to fund the project through grant applications on the basis of reclaiming waste land to provide an outdoor area that can be used for a wide variety of outdoor activities with our young group members. Further updates will be posted as we progress.

Stuart our ASL has been working hard over the last few weeks to convert steel drums supplied by Heff into Pizza Ovens. These have now been installed into the bank side next to Jack's shelter. This will allow the Scouts to prepare their own Pizzas and then cook them in our three ovens. The photo shows the ovens installed & we just have some finishing touches to complete them so they are ready for use when Scouting restarts.
