Cubs are young people aged between 8 and 10½, who make up the second section of the Scouting family, between Beavers and Scouts.

During their time in the Pack, Cubs will get a chance to try lots of different activities like swimming, music, exploring, computing and collecting.

There are a range of badges available which Cubs can wear on their uniforms to show everyone how well they're doing.

Cubs also get to go on trips and days out, to places like the zoo, theme parks or a farm. Sometimes they will be able to go camping with the rest of the Pack and take part in all kinds of outdoor activities.

Structure and organisation

A Pack of Cubs is organised into Sixes, with each Six named after a colour, and a Sixer and a Seconder in charge.

Where are we?

The Cubs meet at:

Lookwide Centre
Maiden's Walk
NE46 1DP

The great Toilet roll run
18/04/2020 By David Hefferin

We are pleased to report that scouting has not entirely stopped due to the corona virus. The leaders and adult helpers are continuing to provide challenges and virtual meetings as well as badges that can be worked towards at home.

As part of the fun we got the Beavers, Cubs & Scouts involved in making a video called Bog Wars . Many children in the Group contributed before it was all added together, edited & music added. A direct link to the unlisted video was sent to all parents but it can also be watched by Group members by logging on to the website & going to the members section.

We hope everyone that took part enjoyed doing so and that you enjoyed the finished article.

This is a challenging time For everyone but we are confident we will get back to enjoying normal scouting as soon as possible.

if any parents have ideas for the beavers , Cubs and scouts to do at home, please share and we will pass on.

in the mean time congratulations go to the following winners.

The Necktie flip : Jack B (Scouts)

Easter scouting hat : Ethan T & James A (Scouts)

David Newman
20/09/2019 By David Hefferin

Our Summer Camp to Austria in July 2019, saw the retirement of one of our longest serving leaders. David Newman joined our Group as an Assistant Scout Leader in 1987 when his son Martin joined the Scouts. Over 32 years David has been a fantastic ambassador for Scouting in our Group. During 32 years of service as an Assisant Scout leader & Group Scout leader he was instrumental as part of a four man team & committee that succeeded in building the Lookwide Centre & his knowledge of building was invaluable. David also was involved in the building of the new extension to the Centre that was opened in November 2017 & Jack's shelter in 2019.

During 20 Summer camps abroad that the Scout Troop has been involved in since 1987, David took on the role of camp leader for 15 of them & included trips to France, Germany, Austria, Hungary & Switzerland. On our many camping weekends, far too many to mention here David looked after the catering & transporting the camping equipment to the many campsites we have used over the years

David was also a regular attendee at Troop meetings, helping to run them & the Troop programme & he also was part of a great leadership team that ran an extremely active District programme for the Scout section.

We wish David well in his retirement & thank him for his OUTSTANDING & SPECIALLY DISTINGUISHED Service to Scouting & our Group.
