A night to appreciate
17/10/2021 By David Hefferin

It was both a privilege & an honour to organise a special night out for a very special person. Mr Robert Hubbuck (Bobby), retired from Scouting several months ago. Sadly Covid came along & we were unable to organise an event to mark his retirement until now. Bobby was very much a guiding figure for me when I first started out as a Scout leader, some 39 years ago. For well over 50 years, Bobby has been a leading figure in the lives of countless young people & adults through Scouting. He has undertaken several roles for over half a century, including ADC Scouts, Dilston Warden, Stocksfield SL, Riding Mill and of course Haydon Bridge where he enjoyed his Scouting as a youngster.

Last night Scouters who have known Bobby for many years & therefore fully appreciate the time, dedication & commitment he has given to Scouting came together to thank him & mark his retirement. My thanks go to Selena at the Stalida Greek restaurant in Hexham for hosting the evening & the food was fabulous. We rounded off the evening with a get together at our headquarters where Bobby was presented with a certificate of appreciation organised by Stuart on behalf of all Scouters past & present that have worked with him over the years.
